If you want to monetize your music on YouTube then good!
There are a few things you can do to start making money with your music on YouTube.
Let me start by saying that I have personal experience making money on YouTube both with content creation and with the use of my music in videos.
The income is totally passive. You create it once and you’re done. You don’t have to do anything else.
Of course, making more content will always help your cause!
What is YouTube Monetization?
YouTube monetization is the process by which you can make money by uploading original content to the site.
Payout varies, like how frequently your content is viewed or used, how many subscribers you have, and whether or not you adhere to YouTube Community Guidelines.
For musicians in particular, YouTube created a course for this here.
How To Monetize Your Music on YouTube
There are a couple of things you can do to make money with your music on YouTube.
Music Streaming
The first is from streaming of your music. I use CDBaby to distribute my music to YouTube.
They send me a check with my royalties. They do all the work. They even make sure I get paid when other people use my music in their videos.
When your song gets played, you get paid.
Google Adsense
Another way to monetize your music in YouTube is to make videos.
Sounds obvious, but really content is king. For every song you have make a video for it.
Once you meet these requirements you can get a Google AdSense account.
- Have an approved Google AdSense account set up and connected
- Must have at least 1,000 subscribers
- Have at least 4,000 public watch hours within the previous year
- Reside in a country or region where YouTube’s Partner Program is available
- Follow all YouTube Partner Program policies
You will be able to add advertisements to your videos by adding Google Adsense to your account.
Advertisements don’t have to be intrusive. They can be at the beginning, middle or end of your videos.
You can decide to add advertisements or not to your videos.
Personally, I recommend building your YouTube audience first. Until you get 1,000 subscribers don’t even worry about it.
Music streaming and Google Adsense are just 2 ways to make money on YouTube with your music.
The bottom line is, you need to be creating new content on a normal basis. It can be weekly, monthly, daily, whatever, but it has to be consistent.
Remember, persistence leads to success!
