Everybody wants paid but how can you increase what you get paid to play at your booked gigs?

There are some simple things that you can do now that will likely increase what you’re paid.

First off, we have to be real.

Most people think they deserve to be paid waaaay more than they’re worth.

We see Taylor Swift made a whopping $90 MILLION on her 2018 tour and think, well, we need to get paid too!

The problem is, we’re not at the top of the heap.

We’re hustling and grinding it out but we’re not the 1%.

So, let’s look at some practical ways to increase your gig pay.

3 Ways to Increase Your Paid Gigs

  1. Ask for it. I know this seems obvious but most people miss it. Instead they wait and wait and wait for the club to “give them a raise”. Look, no club is going to take money from their pocket and give it to you voluntarily. Word of caution: there is s difference between “asking” and “demanding”. Tread lightly.
  2. Increase your rate at the next venue. You may only be comfortable asking for “x” amount for a night’s work. It usually went like this for me:
club owner: “What do you guys charge?”
me: “We usually get $300 a night from other venues”
club owner: “Ok, we can do that.”
The problem is, we were worth much more than that. Instead, I should have said our rate is $330. That’s a 10% increase from our normal rate AND if it was too much we could always come down to the rate we needed.
  3. Make it worth it for the club. If you want more money then the club needs to make more money. If the room is empty then there is no way you’ll get more. Do your best to promote your shows and get the place packed. If it’s packed when you perform then you’re going to have a lot of leverage to negotiate.

These 3 simple things could earn you a lot more in booked paid gigs.

Remember, don’t be too aggressive. You want the gig so don’t jeopardize it.

The more gigs you book the more you’ll likely get paid!
