Hindsight is 2020. If you are like me, you learned a lot in 2019.
Let’s look at 2 clear lessons learned.
Email Wins Over Phone Calls.. again.
One thing that was confirmed in big numbers – Email is THE way to contact clubs, venues, coffee shops, theaters, etc.
Calling clubs is a thing of the past and should be avoided UNLESS they give you their number and TELL YOU to call them.
This is a big win for all of us independent musicians who are strapped for time.
Calling clubs takes at least 10x as much time as sending your first email to a venue.
Follow up calls take 100x as much time since you can automate the email follow up like we do in GigFaster.
Take away: The bottom line is you need to start the booking process by emailing prospective clubs.
Response Time Has Stayed Steady
Another interesting thing was the response times from venues.
The average response was 3 1/2 weeks after several follow up emails.
Looking at the last 5000 email pitches we sent to venues in GigFaster, we found a success rate at almost 2%.
By the way, this number is really good and could easily be higher if artists followed this blog and podcast.
The success rate is a lot higher than most “band gig” websites which we’re not trying to be.
GigFaster was started to help musicians book more gigs, promote their music and submit their songs to record labels.
The successful artists have committed to the long haul and now have a steady stream of gigs and press.
Take away: Never give up and be committed to the long haul and you will find success.
